I am very excited to teach fifth grade - it is my favorite grade and I hope it will be your favorite too!
I believe all children are gifted and it is my hope that together we can find and develop those talents within each student this year. I believe that all brains can learn with a growth mind set, therefore, I encourage students to 'exercise' their brains and understand sometimes it takes longer to 'get there' but with practice and effort we will get there and beyond!
Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning and always put forth their best efforts knowing I am there to help and guide them on their journey. My goal is to have a safe environment where students are comfortable taking chances and are not afraid to ask questions.
I am looking forward to a GREAT YEAR!!!
I am in my fourteenth year of teaching. I have taught both fourth and fifth grade. This is my second career. I have a B.S. and a Master's in accounting and worked in various fields of business in the past. Teaching was my first love though, so when I moved with my family to Arizona from NYC, I went back to school for a post-Baccalaureate degree in Elementary Education while working as a substitute teacher. I then earned my master's degree in Elementary Education and Curriculum Development from NAU in 2005.
I am happily married with two wonderful daughters. My husband, John, is a retired accountant and CFO, who, until recently, was a caregiver to his elderly father who lived with us. My daughters both graduated from the University of Arizona. Katie is an emergency room nurse who just began accepting travel assignments after working at TMC in Tucson and Banner Gateway. My other daughter, Grace, is a Pediatric Physician Assistant and got married this summer. She and her husband, Chris, live in Gilbert.
When not working or attending classes, I enjoy spending time with my family and traveling.
